Having successfully completed the Year 2000 Compliance Program, Telecel does not anticipate any problems with the performance of its systems going into the Year 2000.
In 1997, Telecel began assessing the potential effects of the so-called “Y2K Bug”. To maintain its high quality levels of Customer service, Telecel set up a comprehensive work group, assisted by a team of external consultants, to work with all company’s departments. Their responsibility was to ensure a smooth transition into the Year 2000.
The Compliance Program happened in various stages and has now been completed. Last July in the Azores, Telecel carried out a comprehensive simulation of the Year 2000 transition that was also successfully completed. To complement this programme, Telecel also focused on the implementation of various contingency plans for all the Telecel systems, equipment and products.
As a result, all Telecel’s services are expected to operate normally from 31 December 1999 to 1 January 2000. This excludes, however, problems that may occur in any external company systems that Telecel may be connected to. Nevertheless, a high volume of calls is expected during the period, which may give rise to occasional problems in communications.
