CERCICA IT Resource Centre

February 16, 2012
Vodafone Portugal Foundation supports social inclusion through Information Technology

CERCICA (Cooperative for the Education and Rehabilitation of Special Needs Citizens of Cascais) this afternoon opens the IT Resource Centre in its installations. The facility is an Information and Communication Technology training centre, and its goal is to fight info-exclusion of people with special needs.

Created in partnership with the Vodafone Portugal Foundation and Cascais Municipal Council, the IT Resource Centre for Inclusion is equipped with the most advanced technology, adapted to the various needs. It will be open not only to the 200 CERCICA students, but also to a broad set of teachers, trainers and tutors and the community as a whole, in order to provide its users with the means to promote the excellent opportunities afforded by the Information Technologies to increase the personal autonomy of citizens with special needs.

The centre will operate in a training room with IT equipment and hardware items adapted to neuromotor, cognitive and eyesight problems, and with specific communication software to make it easier for all individuals with handicaps and incapacities to use the equipment.

The training shall be given by staff belonging to the Directorate-General of Innovation and Curricular Development (DGIDC), and will enable basic autonomy skills to be acquired, giving initial IT training to people with special educational needs and continuous IT training for working citizens who have a handicap.

Given the computerisation of society, this project is crucial to promote a better standard of living and social inclusion for the people with special needs supported by CERCICA.

This mission is in line with the goals of the Vodafone Portugal Foundation: to accelerate the development of the Information Society and fight against info-exclusion through training initiatives and professional qualification training in the Telecommunications and Information Technology sector and to support special social integration projects.
