Winners of Yorn Dancers to perform at Rock in Rio-Lisboa 2018

May 6, 2017
• First edition of Yorn Dancers #SchoolEdition starts in September and will set schools in the entire country dancing

Yorn and Jazzy Dance Studios today hosted Yorn Dancers #SchoolEdition, a nationwide interschool dance competition that challenges Portuguese students to form teams (crews) to win the title of Best School Dancers and gain the opportunity to perform at the biggest entertainment and music event in Portugal: the Rock in Rio-Lisboa.

With the support of Better World (Rock in Rio) and Lisbon City Council, which is associated with this initiative as a candidate for European Capital of Sports 2021, the championship that will set the entire country’s schools dancing starts in September and will be presented especially on the Yorn YouTube.

Entries can be made by sending a video by e-mail, which will then be posted on the Yorn YouTube and be open to voting by the public and by a jury consisting of the singers David Carreira and Da Chick and by dancers Diana Matos (recently in the spotlight for going up on the stage at the Oscars ceremony with Justin Timberlake) and Fábio Jorge (a familiar face to all those who experienced Yorn Bundalicious at Rock in Rio-Lisboa).

This will be followed by a qualifying process, and in April 2018, on World Dance Day, the winning crew will be announced at a big live event. In addition to being able to perform at Rock in Rio-Lisboa 2018, the winners of the first edition of Yorn Dancers will also receive six months of intensive training at Jazzy Dance Studios and tickets for the festival at Bela Vista Park in Lisbon.

According to Leonor Dias, Brand Director of Vodafone Portugal, Yorn Dancers will be the perfect stage for Portuguese students to show off their talent. “In Yorn we believe in the potential of young people and value their authenticity. We recognise the creativity of the younger generation and we want to give them the means to make their dreams come true. That’s why at Yorn we challenge young people to make the most of what they are and, more than the way they move, we’re interested in what makes them move”.
